post-apocalyptic reality

So, the apocalypse happened and passed away. It's "the Incident" + some hundred years. Humanity survived and world is now part Fallout, part Terminator, part The Walking Dead, part The Road, part (insert your favorite post-apocalyptic setting here).

The system is irrelevant. So is the lore.

I'm interested in opinions about how people would really, well, just go about their daily lives, what would be considered normal and stuff.

I'll start with some banalities - please add your ideas if you want.

> Being paranoidal would be ok. Nobody would trust random strangers, pointing guns at strangers would be considered reasonable.

> Sleeping next to dead bodies, or even have them stuffed at your shelter wouldn't be any problem as long as the stench wouldn't be too awful.

> Speaking of what, everything stinks, big time. You stink, they stink, land stinks, food stinks - it's not like that all the time and everywhere, especially in places where people simply wash their ass every now and then, but in general, world stinks. Literally.

> Fetishes, questionable attire and such would be far more tolerable - nobody would give a dick if you were to carry a rubber doll with you, waifu pillow, or see you dressed in a skirt, hockey mask and t-shirt with "fuck my skinny ass" inscription.

> There would be far more women than men. The latter died in numbers while fighting on frontlines/at ground zero, etc.

> Nobody would treat any gender better - you're only worth what you can do. Technician who has no access to electronics is worth shit.

> Being a self sufficient universalist would be a common thing. Everyone knows a bit of everything.

> There's a big difference between settlements and "wasteland", but in general there's hardly any law. Funnily enough this means that "oh, I'm so bad guy & shit" are often sniped from a safe distance.

> Killing people is neither a major crime, nor sin. Similar thing with cannibalism, fucking whatever owns a relatively tight, wet and warm hole. Doesn't have to be very alive and willing. That's how things simply are.

> Have an axe with that? Grab a gun kill the fucker, get a knife, shiv the bastard… But it's not that it makes you "good" or something. Nobody gives a shit about honor, justice and similar stuff anymore. Have some scores to settle, do it and good luck about it.

> Weaponry is primitive. People rely on things that aren't hard to replace and maintain. Guns exist, but they are "special purpose" rather than "I carry me CheyTac sniper rifle with me all the time". Bows are once again big time. Patience and precision are a big thing now, more valued than pure strength or some chinese "kung fu, because it's far better to keep the distance and snipe the guy rather than go full mano a mano and risk broken bones, cuts, infection. BTW calling someone "a pussy" or "a coward" won't do anything now.

> Nobody knows a thing about history. Or, m ore precisely, there are dozens of different versions of it. It's not uncommon to hear the story about White Paladin Hitler rescuing Indians from clutches of Fallen Angels. Or meet a guy who is a direct descendant of King George, master of Mountain Olympus, from where he, Odin and Allah rule the world.

Making Fighters Better

/tg/

I don't come here often, but I was wondering if I could get some assistance. I know on halfchan, it was widely agreed on that fighters can't have nice things, and in most cases fighters are generally terrible in all walks of life, including fighting itself. Does fullchan agree with this?

With that said, my DM is allowing me to more or less create a custom class or modify a pre-existing class for his 13th Age game. With that said, I come asking advice. Basically, I need some input on why others find fighters to be underwhelming, and possibly some suggestions on what I could do to make my fighter more viable, overall.

So, what do you think, /tg/? How would you make it so fighters can have nice things?

Picture somewhat related, but not really what I had in mind for my character.

Tavern Tales

Just run across this sweet ass system. Yes, it's rules-lite. I know, I know. But it looks very very fun. Real great to tell a story in. What do you guys think?

I personally enjoy that it operates off a classless system. Allows for very interesting character development.

How Magic has become cucked: A theory.

Good evening full/tg/, I understand that there are two MTG threads that have devolved into "lets create Magic: the Gatening" already, but with a little bit of thought, I think I've come up w/ a conclusion of how and why MTG has become a SJWhole.

It came when discussing some of the greatest GG moments at the HQ. I remembered Geordie Tates meltdown at SCG, which he accused being over GG, when instead they set up a new system, which reminded me of something.

Back in August 2011, a woman named Alyssa Bereznak posted an article on Gizmodo called " My Brief OkCupid Affair With a World Champion Magic: The Gathering Player". In the article, the woman describes a brief affair she had with Jon Finkel, or better known, as Johnny Magic. The date is described as rather pleasant, and the woman, not knowing anything about gaming or M:tG, is surprised to hear that he is the world champ, and is naturally skeptical. One quick GOOGLE search later, she is no longer skeptical. (He also took her to a one man show about the life of Jeffery Dahmer, as she puts it, it's not particularly romantic).

What happens next is copy/pasta'd here

Basically a tl;dr is that she didn't go on a third date w/ him because he played Magic, but admitted while it might have been shallow, it was something he should have put on his profile. A few general insults have since been edited out, like calling him king of the geeks, or saying he was lying by not including that on his profile.

All in all, it's an uninteresting post, short of the fact it shows Finkel has a life outside of turning cardboard sideways.

Then all hell broke loose. In a way that was never seen before, or since, the broken base that is M:tG united to face off against this injustice to the cardboard GOD. People made memes, they sent online threats, reported the article, flamed each other. Eventually threads were deleted on cuck/tg/.

Now, why did I remember this you ask, Tait wrote a article called "Too my someday daughter" on Jewcitygames, which is an article explaining all the "woman hating" going around with it.

Basically this guy drinks the blue pill w/ the coolaid. Hard.

>pictured: Tait's stupid "geek cards"

>>his meltdown

>meme's of Alyssa, collected in the Tait article I referenced above.

End of the world bullshit

This game line is shit. It was shilled as "play as yourself" and the result was "uuuuh, just, uuum, redistribute points to make your character resemble yourself".

Fuck, we do that since D&D.

R: 155 / I: 43 / P: 1
Hello, Harem-kun. I don't know why you stopped posting, but suspect you're still lurking, at least.

I want you to know that in sharing your tales, you became more than a man. You became a shining beacon, a friend reaching out into the dark and showing those who had given up on finding love that there was hope. Sure, there were those few who doubted your story, but they were merely so blinded by their own despair that they couldn't accept something good happening to someone. In a way, you became the hero that /tg/ needed, and not just the board, I'm talking the entire community.

So many people (including me) had assumed that being a grognard automatically meant a lifetime career in wizardry and that anyone showing interest in someone like themselves had to be poison, and so their beliefs became truth, never daring to crawl out of their adamantine shells and discover all the weird, wonderful people in the world. Never daring to think that anyone with a functioning mind would ever regard them with more than a passing glance.

You reminded all of us that it didn't have to be this way, you inspired others to share their stories of /tg/ romance. And for all of that, I thank you.

Please come back, Harem-kun. We miss you.

Zerg, Tyranid, general "organic weapon" hive races.

I was thinking about certain races that use organic weapons and to me it seems that the game designers don't know much about biology or weapons engineering. They always use something weird like mind rays, dart guns, acid or even sillier stuff like plasma the hot kind, not the sticky intravenous kind or biological railguns. I guess my overall point is, just because the game isn't based on reality, doesn't mean it has to insult the intelligence of the player.

So I think it's time for /tg/ to come up with realistic weapons a biotech hive race might use.

Some examples would be chemical weapons that deny access to areas of the map for unshielded troops, biological weapons that kill or weaken a number of enemies every turn, why use a bolter with an unguided round when vid related will seek out an enemy and inject toxin or viruses through body armor…

Why do Gnomes/Halflings and various iterations always get shit on?

R: 3 / I: 0 / P: 1

Im in a pickle, /tg/.

So I'm DMing a come and go heavily homebrewed 3.5e D&D campaign. In the last session, the party was in downtime in the magical fortress/city where they are trapped ATM. The barbarian, who was slightly drunk, managed to find his way into a group of cloaked figures who were basically douchebag posers as I led them on to be.

After a bit of banter, the barbarian gets the douchebags to bring him along to their meeting place where they do all sorts of "kewl shit." This is where the trouble started.

Now, I'm relatively new to DMing, and I like to let the players push the storyline themselves. I set up some very flexible plot points and let them do their thing, only subtly pushing them towards the next part, as I make up the details on the fly. Usually this works out great but this time things got a little out of hand.

Basically, my group's tank found his way into an underground drag-racing ring.

So any advice?

I have a problem /tg/. Can you help me?

I have some RPG experience, I know plenty of good settings, but usually they are supported by a mechanics that leaves much to be desired. So here's my question: is there some mechanics that:

- is easy to learn (and explain to potential players, all newcomers)

- features no more than one page big character sheet, no longer than 20-30 minutes required for character creation

- is either able to support modern urban/cyberpunk/horror/post-apo/sf settings out of the box, or simple enough to tweak without "domino effect"

- features some nice, witty concept like "burn X points to get effort bonus"

I already tried:

- Amber/Lords of Gossamer (I can't comprehend this whole "ranks" system)

- Basic Role Playing (too many needles attributes like SIZ, or MOV),

- Cypher (counter-intuitive: Agility = Speed, gain 2 XPs share immediately 1 xp with any player, GM doesn't use dice),

- GURPS (awfully written, boring),

- PFRPG and D&D (too complicated to quickly explain),

- Shadowrun (ditto + hard to tweak).

I've heard a few good words about

- Apocalypse/Dungeon World,

- FATE,

- Microlite 20,

- One Roll,

- Savage Worlds,

- True 20,

- Ubiquity.

Alas, I know nothing about any of them and I just can't read all of them at once.

Any suggestions? It doesn't have to be universal system per se, just universal enough to quickly switch, from let's say "Cthulhu" to "star bounty hunters".

Only War Aeronautica

Hey /tg/, i'm running an Only War game for my friends and I recently had a thought.

How about we create supplemental rules for the Imperial Navy and aerial flights. Already found something on the FFG forums.

For flight creation, we could use a modified version of the regiment creation rules. We get 12(maybe more or less?) points to spend. Homeworld and Commander type can stay the same, but regiment types are replaced with flight types like bombers, support, fighters, and light space combat. In addition, we could come up with new doctrines and specialty equipment for the flights.

I know Operate (Aeronautica) would be the main skill used. Do you think we should include new skills as well?

Anyone want to throw some ideas around? It'd be good to have a /tg/ project to do.

The Runed Age

It took some time, but we finally got the first part of the promised playthrough online.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x4n9DfrvOHU

For those of you new to all this, The Runed Age is an upcoming RPG created by me based on a magic system I debuted on halfchan's /tg/ a couple of years back.

You can find more info on the Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/stormforgeproductions

And if you want to have a crack at the magic system, go to http://mark6.imgur.com/

Sup, /tg/, I've been working on a bit of fluff for a setting recently and wanted to know what y'all thought of it. Cosmology/The Planes

Yesterday I found my 3e Manual of the Planes and this got me wondering what other people have done with the planes in their games? Tbh most of my stuff was pretty stupid in hindsight but I recall that I set an adventure in the elemental plane of sound. Not exactly the most original thing, really, but sonic spells in 3e are generally a rather underrated damage type.

I'm sure people have done much better, both in custom planes and shape of their universe.

M:TG - Shandalar.

This is not exactly, /tg/ but it's close enough to be posted here. Do you, guys, remember Shandalar? The old microprose M:TG game? If you didn't know, you can play that with a huge bunch of added new cards now, thanks to modders. (Previously you could play the duel part in the Manalink with the new stuff, but now they've added the cards in the Shandalar rpg-ish game itself.)

Moneysinks / Gold investment for PCs

I'm a novice DM taking my group through an improvised campaign. Making it up as I go along, we're all novices so it's alright.

I don't really know what to do with all my PC's gold. I've been reading the 1E and 2E PHBs recently and noticed a lot of discussion about investing in strongholds etc and it gave me an idea for a moneysink for the players.

Question is, are there any particularly good splatbooks (from any edition) that cover this topic the best? Otherwise I'll just have to improvise when it comes to building/maintenance costs, etc.

I'd like them to be able to invest in their little plot of land I plan to give them, be it a smithy or a pub or what have you.

R: 213 / I: 94 / P: 4

So when cleaning out my moms attic i found my old YuGiOh! cards and unleashed the vile curse of making my friends dig out their old decks and start playing the original rules again.

So here i am looking at my old Frankenstein monstrosity from my teens and wondering if i could salvage it. I dont normally come to /tg/ for TCG stuff but i have no idea where else to turn, i assume some people played this for a while, heres my list, tell me how retarded it is.

GM Union - First Thread Ever Edition

Sup, /tg/. Didn't see a thread like this and I thought it'd be a good idea. Basically:

>Ask for GM advice

>Tutor other anons

>Worldbuild together

>Share resources

I'll start us off.

I'm currently fleshing out a world for a Savage Worlds campaign I'm preparing for my group. It's going to be a supernatural spaghetti western with a strong gold rush theme. Think The Dollar Trilogy / Rango / Django but with werewolves, skeletons, ghosts, vampires and cultists. The players have all agreed to be a band of misfit outlaws travelling west trying to strike gold and restart their lives. So far the party's composed of a skeletal gunman, a spoopy ghost, and a rough dude that's "too old for this shit".

I'm having trouble coming up with the people, places and situations the players might find. So far I've got a Van Helsing-like sheriff that's going to hunt them down, a village of outlaw werewolves that don't take kindly to visitors, a cave full of cultists trying to do shifty stuff, and a travelling inventor that goes around selling steampunk stuff.

Any other ideas, fa/tg/uys and ca/tg/irls?

Hey /tg/, could you check out a homebrew class I put together? It started as rules for using Soul Gems and I decided to write a class around it. Parts inspired by Soul Eater.

Having studied the properties of the soul and soul gems for many years, or perhaps gifted from birth with some talent or ability, this rare breed of magic fighter is in tune to the energy of the Soul. Whether binding souls to weapons, absorbing souls to heal themselves, or destroying them to unleash massive blasts of energy, this fighter is one to be feared by all. However, this power comes at a cost, and has strong limits; if they are not careful, they might easily destroy themselves and their allies.

Homebrew Soul System:

Soul gems are odd crystals found in the depths of the Earth with unusual properties; they can be “engraved” with the energy of a once-living being’s Soul. This “engraving” is the storing of a living creature’s energy pattern within the gem; the gem holds the “information” which once described the living creature. This energy can be used in many different ways. It can be bound to machines to give them pseudolife, it can be absorbed into the body to be later used to heal or be unleashed outward, or it can be bound to items to awaken them.

Soul Gem Conversions and Energy Stats (CR are typicalities and used mainly as reference for the Soul Partner, can vary for souls of enemies):

Mindless Soul – 1hp (.1 basic souls)

Pathetic Soul (Listed in Daemon page as “animal souls”, changed due to the fact that there are high-CR animals) (< CR 1) – 1d3hp (.25~ basic Souls)

Basic Soul (CR 1-7) – 2d6hp or 2 ability points, extra attack +1d6 (1 basic souls)

Noteworthy Soul (CR8-11) – 6d8hp or 2d3 ability points, extra attack +3d8 (5 basic souls)

Minor Grand Soul (CR 12-17) – 10d10hp or 2d6 ability points, extra attack +5d10 (10 basic souls)

Medium Grand Soul (CR 18-20) – 12d20hp or 2d12 ability points, extra attack +6d20 (20 basic souls)

Major Grand Soul (Quasideities, CR 21+) – 6d100hp or 2d20 ability points, extra attack +3d100 (50 basic souls)

Unique Soul (Deities) – Specific to soul (100+ basic souls)

-As can be seen in this chart, each progressive soul has a higher energy potential, but a lower energy average; this is because working with more and more energy becomes less and less efficient

So my plans to pick up Dominion and Thunderstone didn't pan out, either due to delivery issues or store issues. To make up for it, I made the terrible mistake of picking up Marvel: Legendary after testing it out with a friend. Been having some fun with it.

Earlier tonight, ended up playing two games against Mr. Sinister using the quick play Golden Solo rules off of BGG. Even though I was on the easiest scheme (Daily Bugle) he was kind of a huge pain in the ass. His level of discard is bullshit, as you basically are guaranteed to lose a turn past the halfway point in his deck.

Used Ultron+Domino though, and they did some work. Spider-Woman was also in there, but kind of less so. First game I managed a partial victory and racked up something like 48 VP because Ultron is ridiculously good at snapping up Bystanders, which can translate to cards from your actual deck if you're reaaaaally lucky. Which I was.

Threw out Spider-Woman and put in Jean instead due to the synergy with Bystander gains. I actually did a lot worse next game, but that was less because of Jean and more due to some utterly shitty draws and Master Strike timings. Unlike the previous game where I managed to hit Sinister 4 times, in this one I only got to hit him once, though that was due to a beautiful Bystander-Draw-Tech combination engine with Jean and Domino. Then a few turns later Sinister ruined a hand and then another hand, and it was suddenly all over and the only thing I could do was mop up the city instead of targeting him directly. Managed a draw, but a draw in the Daily Bugle scenario is almost the same as losing.

Barely touched the game but I'm kind of excited about the new Secret Wars expansion. With the Ambition Deck coming with it, I'm thinking of finagling some way to make Masterminds playable in solo/teams rather than just being in opposition to other players. Mostly doing this because Doom is basically never going to be playable due to the political fuckery going on between Fox and Disney. This would also have the side effect of making Mastermind Magneto playable instead of regular Magneto. That would be better since regular Magneto fucking sucks donkey balls. Seriously, whoever designed him the way they did is a tremendous faggot.

"The Ordo Sicarius, who - following the nicknaming conventions of the other Orders - would presumably be the Assassinhunters (or the better sounding, although less logical Manhunters), are an Order of the Inquisition formed after the Age of Apostasy and the Wars of Vindication which threw the Officio Assassinorum into chaos (small "C"); during the reformation of the Officio, Inquisitor Jaeger requested that an Order of the Inquisition was formed to monitor the Assassins. Thus was formed the Ordo Sicarius, to root out any corruption within the Office of Assassins."

Infinite Skies

This was asked for, and so it shall be given. I will add things as I write them, which may be sporadic. As I said in this >>101626 thread, I'm writing a book that takes place in the setting with the intent to publish it. I've always wanted to write for a living and I feel this may be my chance at that. But since so many people were interested, I decided to dump some of what is in the setting here. There is the possibility of dickery, sure, like someone stealing it, but there's also the possibility that something happens to me and I never finish the book.

I'd rather a community I've been a part of for decades gain a moment of happiness from what I've made than have it die with me. It would be cruel for someone to steal it and claim it as their own; it would honestly break my heart, as I have put years into refining and developing the world as my own personal pet project. But it would likewise be somewhat selfish for me to horde it in fear that.

You are free to use what I post here in any way you please, for your own campaigns, settings, and world building. You may copy, build upon, alter, use, and modify whatever you like. All I ask is that you not claim it as your own work, nothing more.

And so, without further adieu, I give you :

Infinite Skies

So you come to me at last, Apprentice. Took your time, didn't you? Sit, sit. There's much I have to share with you, and nowhere near enough time to do so. An ending is coming on the wings of war, and it will be up to those like you to shape it into a beginning as well as an end. Things are destroyed all to easily, I promise you, but you'll have to work to make something good out of it. That's a truth if ever there was one.

Where to start, where to start? From the bottom up? No, we'd be here all day and night if I did that, and half of what I said wouldn't make any sense to you anyway. Work from the middle outwards, and I might forget something important. So I suppose we'll start from the top and work our way down, then.

In the beginning, there was nothing. All of everything was empty and without form or purpose, as barren as a black sky and bleak as the blasted lands of the East. It was nothing, and yet that nothingness was also Chaos in its purest form, for there was no law to govern anything, no purpose or intent, no rules or shape or structure.

From this emptiness and chaos emerged the first entity of the omniverse, brought into being by His own will, self-actualizing himself into existence. His first thought was "I am, therefore others must also be," and it is from that primordial statement, this First Sentiment, that the omniverse and all things within it sprang into being.

He looked out across the cosmic sea of Chaos, and from it saw the shapes of others like Himself beginning to emerge, echos of the First Sentiment thrown back like sound rebounding off of a distant wall.

They were the Elder Gods, and of them, he was The First.

Each of them set to their own devices, and in the blossoming of their consciousnesses, they came to embody primordial concepts of entropy, time, life, death, balance, space, and thought.

Seeing this, The First struck fire to time and life against death, and gave his brothers and sisters purpose by crafting the framework that granted their existences purpose, context, and meaning.

Thus, The First took upon Himself a new name. Lawbringer. From His fingers are writ the equations that drive the universe, from His machinations arose the secrets of manipulating the omniverse through the medium we call magic. He is the great mind, the author of the laws of the universe, the one who yoked Chaos and set it to work for his purposes.

From His work, and the consequences of it, arose two things that are the fundaments of all that would become what we now know. The first was the eldest mortals, the Firstborn, made in the amalgamated image of their Elder God creators. Our ancient fathers, the Titans.

The second was the seven great realms of the cosmos. These seven realms were the Infinite Skies, the Unending Seas, the Unbound Fires, the Tractless Lands, the Fathomless Depths, the Limitless Heights, and the Eternal Road that binds them all to the great spinning of the cosmos.

OK /tg/

In the thread bitching about bitching about SJWs an Anon suggested that rather then complain constantly about the outrage police, we parody them, through a tabletop game.

Original Post here >>136743

Essentially the premise is that as a game company you want to sell your games and be successful. To do this you must endure attacks from the different outrage mobs (Bible Thumpers, Shill Media, Overly Protective Parents and Social Justice Idiots) whilst keeping your product profitable. Whilst running your business you have issues such as game writers doing things to upset your buyers (Matt Warding, Magical Realming and selling out to an outrage mob). As well as dealing with boss like characters (thinly veiled parodies of Jack Chick, Jack Thomson, Anita Sarkeesian and others) who if left unchecked can severely hurt your bottom line. All done tongue in cheek with the focus on satire and /tg/ humour.

This could be a good chance for us to take the piss out of our detractors, take a swipe at some game companies and channel some of the negative energy we have toward these group into something productive.

Obviously /tg/ has a well established reputation of getting shit done. Is this something worth doing? If we do it in what game format do we do it? What style of play? How do we distribute? etc.

Plus any ideas concerning black humour, or anything else feel free to contribute.

Is this worth pursuing as an actual game? Kickstarter and other methods of funding projects has made getting new tabletop games to the market easier than ever; in fact, a buddy of mine just published his own card game ala Munchkin.

Do you think I can actually make the Martian Death Quest campaign into something that could make me money? In addition to Mars, I could make other campaigns covering the rest of the solar system and make an entire game out of survival horror in space.

Armada or X-Wing

I want to get into some sort of tabletop wargame with an active community, I'm quite tired of being in love with a dead game.

I'm interested in both Star Wars games right now. Armada and X-Wing both seem like they are heavily skill based and reward good play and good list-building. I couldn't justify both though.

Which would I feel like I'm having a more complete experience with? The core box of Armada, or 2 Core boxes of X-Wing + Two ships (I'm thinking the Y-Wing and the Tie-Advanced). I don't think I could afford to splash into anything more than the core box of armada at the moment.

A question, if I may.

I'm starting a new group and we're looking at D&D 3.5/Pathfinder materials - and yes, I know there's some variation given that context to what I'm about to ask, but bear with me - and have hit a bit of a conundrum.

Is there a way to adapt a point-buy system to equate to a 5d6-drop-lowest generation method?

What sort of point value would this equate to, if so?

Is this particularly powerful?

> Comparing the results from one player's scores via the rolling method generated a very high point value, upwards of double that associated with 'high-power' games {~28-32 pts} described in some sources.

If so, what mechanisms would you advise if one were to run a game using such powerfully-developed characters?

Back to M:TG

Hey /tg/! I used to play M:TG quite a lot from the era of 6h edition up to Ravnica. (The old one, apparently, by today's standards. The one after Kamigawa.) Then I quit M:TG and sold off my cards, to that I could play 40K (Glorious Imperial Guard, of course! My M:TG cards paid for many DkoK FW things!) And now that my IG (and some SM bikers, White Scars ofc) collection comes close to about 15,000 points, I've decided to get back to Magic. So, what's changed? So far I know that:

>Damage doesn't go to the stack anymore (So, explain Sakura Tribe Elder to me, men!)

>There are some other planeswalkers (WTF, you used to be an all-powerful planeswalker, so…the hell?)

>They've made Elder Dragon Highlander an official format and they're calling it Commander now. (When did this happen? And I must rebuild my sliver deck for that.)

>They've gotten rid of core sets. WTF?

>WHAT THE HELL happened with the new slivers? Why are they all human-like? Has Wizards been into their own ass as much as GW has?

>What's the best shit to buy now to get back to T2/Modern tournaments?

Hex - Shards of Fate

Hey fa/tg/uys, does anyone else play Hex? I know technically speaking this is a video game and might be more of a /v/ thing but its a digital TCG and plenty of people talk about MTGO so why not talk about its much more competently assembled younger brother?

I've gotten into it more seriously this week and the drafting is pretty great and cheap for people with some MTG experience who don't have their head up their ass and can pull out a win or two. Hex has different cards but very similar base mechanics (hence the lawsuit from Wizards that is currently ongoing) and takes full advantage of the fact that it is digital in a lot of different ways.

For example, cards that in Magic would provide a +1/+1 counter in Hex just say 'get +1/+1' and then it keeps it. Bounce it? Still has it. Kill it? Still has it. Back in the deck? Still has it. This applies to any state change to a card that is permenant and this alone opens up loads of new mechanics like Prophecy (The next [Card Type] in your deck gets [Effect] - Ex. The next creature in your deck gets +1/+1 and First Strike) and Shift (Pay 1 - Move [Effect] from this card to a target creature - Ex. Pay 1 - Move First Strike from this card to another target creature.)

Frankly I have had more fun with the way this game is structured than I can honestly say I have ever had with MTG since all the rules are on the table and once you stop thinking in terms of MTG implied rules it just…makes sense. Most of my mistakes are due to just flat out error instead of my misunderstanding how things work.

Mana screw is still a thing but even that the game mitigates with how it operates regarding colors, effectively every land provides its color as a counter and then just gives you colorless mana. Basically if you played 3 red and 2 green cards don't care about color as long as you HAVE that color in the counter (known as threshold) which cuts down on micromanaging land too along with the previously mentioned mana screwing.

Its solid. I love it. Even has a PvE element to it (albeit only as a gauntlet like arena) but promises to include a more serious PvE element in the future with a build your own character option and everything (oh yeah I forgot to mention Champions too, they're pretty cool.)

Any who isn't playing should give it a try, its not like /tg/ doesn't have 10$ to spare for something new and nifty instead of buying more GW butt fucking in a box sets.

Project - AEGIS: D&D 5e Armor Overhaul

Hey /tg/, I wanna overhaul how armor works in D&D 5th Edition without breaking the bounds of the system. This is a homebrew project for my current campaign that a few of my players want as well and are helping me with, but I'd like your input too.

So far, our goals are:

>Include more armor options for a variety of settings/time periods

>Include armor quality mechanics to show why different armor is better or worse situationally

IE why something like a gambeson or Mongol silk vest would do better against arrows as opposed to bludgeons

>Include Modification mechanics to allow customized armor to have codified gameplay benefits as opposed to DM adhoc buffs

>Include an armor damage system for any GM that gives a fuck about realism and lethality

>Include a hit-location system to allow for piecemeal armor as opposed to continuing with having armor be bought as all one, premade set

So far we have a bunch of concepts and ideas that we believe could work for all this, but what does /tg/ think?

I understand that D&D is shit and I should just go to FantasyCraft or Dungeon World or whatever, but >inb4 re-inventing the wheel

Stat Up Real World Races

Let's stat up real world races.

I'll start.

Jews

Jews have a long history of being kicked out of almost every known country in the world and blaming it on racism that only applies to them (to which a special term, anti-antisemitism, applies). They are renowned for their appetite for treasure and ability to backstab allies for little gain.

Jews start out with the following stats:

Strength: 4

Dexterity: 6

Constitution: 4

Intelligence: 8

Cunning: 10

Wisdom: 5

Charisma: 2

Jews have the following abilities:

With Great Wealth Comes No Responsibility: For every 10,000 gold coins a Jew has in either coinage or investment (not counting magical items or anything majorly beneficial), he gains an extra point of cunning.

Nose for Loot:The Jew is able to detect all treasure (subject to GM's concept of treasure) within 50ft of his current location.

What Do You Need Ten Shekels For?: The Jew is able to get a ten percent reduction on all goods prices from merchants, as well as being able to bargain with people regarding money using his Cunning stat instead of his Charisma.

Remember The Ten Gorillion: If a Jew is brought below 0HP, as long as he has a significant investment in a major media company (appropriate to the campaign, and where significant means at least 30% of his current investments), he may instead claim that it was his cousin that was just killed, losing all his investment but reappearing at any point he wishes to.

Pathfinder help: Gestalt

So after a interesting first session with a new parthfinder game, each of our characters got some interesting things with a modified deck of many things via a gypsy. some were good, some where bad, but somehow I ended up getting a gestalt character. As a fighter that is going full tank mode as an armor master, sword and shield and heavy armor. I am not sure what extra class I should get that can add to those skills and by looking around, I cant seem to find anything. Currently I am thinking of taking the Barbarian with Invulnerable Rager archetype with extra health, damage potential and possible extra damage reduction.

So is this a good choice? or should I try looking at other classes to add to my role for the group?

R: 29 / I: 8 / P: 9

Why? Why fer fuck's sake people who put so much time inventing shit, who spend nights calculating numbers in hope to reach magical equilibrium between realism and fun, produce such shitty looking games?

Cypher system

I wonder how good are latest games by Monte Cook - Numenera, The Strange both using Cypher System.

I've never had the opportunity to try any, but since I have some time, I'd like to give either or both a shot.

Numenra is something along the lines of that part of SF meets fantasy, but not typical "lasers & swords", but "magic is just science" - kind of that part of "Cloud Atlas" where chick from future and Tom Hanks travel together. I don't know what stories it is supposed to tell.

The Strange seems to be interdimensional sheriffs, something like "The One" with Jet Li and zombie guy - players are working for organization attempting to maintain equilibrium behind various worlds.

That's all I understand.

TG: Transpatien Gebiet

Transpace Zone

sup /tg/, I've had a concept in my head for a while, and now the time has come to finally bring it to light, thanks to the new /tg/ mumble. I've pitched it to people there and got a good reaction, so it's time to bring it here.

The idea is for a weekly game that's run in a semi-episodic, dungeon crawl style game that allows a minimum of character creation and a maximum of playing. Something that you can just turn up to and play when you want some RPG. Persistence isn't required, but anyone who shows up consistently will be able to use their previous character

The spoilers contain fluff, only have a look if you're really interested in that kind of thing.

>Where/When

Late Antiquity with a stable Roman Republic (instead of empire). An alternate name for it might work, possibly "Sorani" or something else similar to the 'secret' names for Rome.

**Picture a parallel world's Rome, one where the a few key events did not take place. One of them being that Tiberius Sempronius Gracchus' proposed reforms did take place, ensuring that returning Roman soldiers were not driven to poverty due to their land being stolen by neighbours while they were fighting in foreign lands. Another is that Pompey the Great Defeated Julius Caesar.

As a result, parallel Rome remains a republic and generally stable.**

>What

So you've got parallel world Rome. So what? Well, it's got it's own Zone. A very recent event that created a nice big area of deadly anomalies, mystery and possibly tons of wealth in the form of artefacts. The PCs are sent in there by the authorities, or of their own volition, forming parties of explorers out to either win their freedom, a return home, or their fortune.

Named the "Transpatien Gebiet," or "TG" by one of the first magical warriors,, it is a source of concern and curiosity to the roman authorities. **Also because TG is /tg/, and also in honour

>Who

The tech level of this is late iron age/early medieval. Since this isn't our planet, there's no dark age, so you've got Roman-Legionary analogues with their lorica segmentica, gladius, etc, germanic mercs with swords, axes, and whatever else.

But that's not the end of it. There's magic and naturally, wizards. But they're not PCs, they're the ones sending the PCs in. This enables a special PC possibility. Soldiers from parallel worlds (often far more advanced), summoned to do the wizard's bidding. So not only will there be Roman Legionaries and German Barbarians, but Crusaders, GIs, Grenadiers, Marines, and '70s Мотострелки explore a magical, anomaly laiden Zone.

Magic users are a possibility, but more through progress and being in the zone too much though really low level magic may be allowed for starting characters.

>Guns and swords? That's unbalanced as fuck, OP you retard

It's fairly easy to balance actually. The system for this is GURPS, which has explicit rules for dealing with disparate tech levels, and also an interesting combat system with plentiful but straightforward combat options for martial characters.

tl;dr

Explore a magical, Roman version of the zone with natives and people pulled from across time and space by wizards. No obligations to show up every week, but those who do get to have some character progression, or characters can be played by a succession of people if they like them. Fairly high lethality, and weekly progress reports in threads. We can keep records of who survives the longest and things like that too,

I'm thinking of starting in a week or a fortnight. The time slot will probably on Friday evening for those in America and Britain which is Saturday morning for those in AUS/NZ

What about the politics and behavior of nobility and royalty in developed nations? What do you know about castle architecture and design?

For example my last D&D games inspired by the "Dyatlov Pass Incident"

>tell group they are just going to take a letter through a snowy mountain range to let a family know their daughter has died

>everything is fine till they camp in the wooded area near a snowdrift

NIGHT 1

>use ac/lighting remotes and Macs studio remote to lower the temperature and lights and start playing some eerie, unsettling music.

>tell them something is out in the woods

>they assume its some troll or shit

>they head out to look but dont find it and must return to the campfire (running some rules where they can freeze to death if they dont warm up inbetween turns out of combat)

>night 1 ends, i turn the lights up and the music off but keep the heating cooler

>They wake up and one of their packs has been ravaged and some supplies taken

>Ranger notices tracks of 'something' but cannot identify them

>They progress slowly in a snowstorm and must make camp again

NIGHT 2

>lower the lights, the temperature a bit more and the music starts again

>some lights in the snow

>fighter and wizard move forward, ranger bard and theif hang back to watch the remaining packs

>tell fighter and mage to roll checks to make sure they arent lost in the blizzard, mage instantly gets lost

>fighter finds nothing and returns to camp, wizard doesnt

>next day they attempt to look for wizard. i confirm wizard is alive but lost, they spend all day searching but spend the evening starting to press on since they dont want to freeze

NIGHT 3

>i do nothing but lower the lights, players start to comment on the cold in the room

>next morning i tell them the mage has wandering back to them. His arms and legs are badly burned and all his magically items simply do not work anymore as though something is interfering with them. I tell the mage he remembers nothing of his time in the woods.

Skirmish Campaign games

Thanks to the shitstorm that is Age of Sigmar I've gone back to thinking about and working on my Warhammer Fantasy miniatures safe in the knowledge they're unlikely to get any more obsolete since the real fantasy rules will almost certainly never progress again. I got into it because I loved the mechanics and lore but being the slow talentless hack that I am I never finished enough miniatures to play anything more than a few skirmishes on beginner days at GW stores with a hero or two. In exploring what I could actually do with my small number of finished models I eventually came across Mordheim and immediately fell in love with its complex customization and campaign potential and since returning to miniatures have been unable to get Mordheim off my mind. I'm aware Mordheim is multiple times as dead as Fantasy now is, and this saddens me greatly, but in all the skirmish games I've looked at it and apparently the even-more-dead Necromunda are the only games I've seen that go into such depth on individual unit customization and progression. I know there's the Mordheim video game coming out but it doesn't look all that appealing to me and I kinda enjoy working on the miniatures more than clicking items in lists. I dabbled in Warmachine and my brother is constantly talking up Infinity but neither have that progression of taking a bunch of mongoloids with rusty daggers and training them up into powerhouses with fancy swords and bucklers and pocket crossbows and shit.

Does anyone know of any not-dead Skirmish games with individual unit campaign customization and progression similar to Mordheim?

Help Thread?

Can I ask here if I need consueling about which system should I and my friends use?

We've tried only D&D 5th, with two different GM, a shitgty one that made all really slow and pretty annoying and the second that wasw better, but still shows how the system is not too good for us

It's too slow and it's fighting system is really complex and overdesigned

We are working now on a little homebrew, and we would like any kind of input, like which systems we could ripoff or stuff that we should use as our base game

We want sometyhing that is not too slow, that focuses less on direct fighting and more on world interaction and different approaches to the game, like infiltrating, and that has a more focused class system, because all tha stuff that there is in D&D looks to me as it forced such a work in balancing all of that that nothing is really useful

AlsoI hate the fact that at the first levels you are pretty much useless and all you can do is grind

R: 42 / I: 1 / P: 10

Hey /tg/, I need ideas for cursed items. Things that are unassuming or has beneficial effects but ultimately deadly. Things that are curious enough to have the players try them out only to find themselves dead in the next moment.

Doesn't need to be perfect, but at least try to put some thought into it. Here's a couple things I can think of.

>Jack's Knife

A rusted knife. Carrying this slowly increases the owner's strength but also eats away at their sanity. If the owner of the knife should die, their body and everything they own is destoryed by an infernal fire, leaving behind only the knife.

Each day, the current owner must make a will save of increasing difficulty (starting at DC 3). Should they fail their will save, they're strength is increased by 1 but their wisdom is decreased by 1 as well for as long as they own the knife (this is counted as temporary modifiers). If the owner's wisdom is reduced to 6 or lower, they go insane and start attacking every living creature around them and continue making will saves as normal until they die.

When ownership of the knife is lost, if they are still sane they'll become exhausted until they're strength and wisdom return to normal (recovering at a rate of 1 point per day for each stat). If insanity has set into them, they'll slowly recover the same way but the insanity will still affect them until their wisdom recovers above 6.

>Mask of the Empty Pouch

A mask that covers more of the face than a usual mask. The only features on the mask are long narrow slits to see through and a long narrow red line representing the mouth.

Once worn, the wearer must immediately make a DC30 will save. If successful, the wearer takes 3d12+20 psionic damage and makes a fort save (DC 20) to not pass out. If the wearer succeeds the fort save, they must make a reflex save (DC 20) to tear the mask off before the mask can attempt to take over the wearer's body again.

Should the wearer fail the reflex save, or while the wearer is passed out from failing the fort save, they must attempt the will save again. If the wearer fails the will save, their soul is destroyed and the mask possess the body. If the wearer dies, the mask will fall off on its own. It is a DC 20 strength test for someone to pry the mask off the wearer and may be attempted once per will save attempted. Should the wearer be possessed, the mask can be easily taken off the body, and when it has been, the body falls flat and empty. Inspecting the remains shows the skin is now synthetic material with nothing inside and a wig replaces what was once hair.

The mask pings as a magic item under Detect Magic, but is actually a parasite. Once it finds a host, it seeks to return home to an unspecified location where many others of its kind also resides. Despite the rather violent method of possession, the masks in their hometown live peaceful lives, even welcoming the rare visitor to stay and recover. The town is dead silent of conversation. It seems they understand many langauges but they communicate in an alien langauge telepathically. Should one mask witness the "death" of one of their own, they move in a hivemind-like fashion to overwhelm the one who took the mask off in an attempt to force them to become the new host.

A Question Concerning Wookies

So /tg/ let's say there's a hypothetical situation in a hypothetical campaign that involves a crew of 3 Wookies and 2 Jedi that have to transport drugs around the galaxy for one of the Hutts. In the event that they are pulled over and searched by imperials, and with no better options to hide the drugs, the crew decides to do what any self-respecting smugglers would and stuff the drugs up their anus.

My question is simply this: how many kilos would they be able to stuff up a Wookie's rectum without having it explode?

An idea for a game setting...

I was starting to think of this setting while taking a long break (probably permanent) from CATastrophe. Well it's one of two, but never the less here is the skinny…

Things started off when the corporations began their move to try to take over the world. Started small at first, trying to control information, then they tried controlling politics itself. Their massive riches and their unending greed put the world at risk, and in some nations their influence proved too insurmountable… until they bit off more than they could chew.

When the world's two main superpowers… ones who had enough nukes at one time to pulverize the planet into omnicide caught wind of the corruptions spreading like a cancer, their responses were different but the result was the same, what historians now call "The Second Bastille".

The United States was the one most beaten up by the corporations in the early to mid 21st century, fooled into signing over right after right, all the while placated with trivial baubles and it's populace kept quiet through popular culture and marginal increases of wages enough to keep the rabble able to buy the ever more expensive garbage they kept putting out. A group of individuals though within the government, particularly within the US Navy's intelligence bureau started catching wind of the corporate collusion, and when one media conglomerate sent something through their supposedly secure channels suggesting sedition through their agents in the government, things went crazy.

Obelisk

Hi /tg/.

I'm going to keep this as brief as possible: I'm working on a card game called Obelisk, and I'm coming here to gauge interest and look for people to help test and refine the game so that it can hopefully be published.

>tl;dr

Strategy card game similar to the likes of M:tG. Plays with a free resource system and a grid-based field where positioning matters. Play over the internet with LackeyCCG.

>What is Obelisk?

Obelisk is a strategy card game for two players comparable to the likes of Magic: The Gathering and Yu-Gi-Oh. You command a civilization centered around a unique Obelisk card to wage war against another Obelisk. The gameplay is designed to be somewhat slow and tactical, with many options available in deckbuilding.

>What makes Obelisk unique?

Obelisk is unique for three reasons. The first is the namesake: the Obelisk. The Obelisk is a special card that stays at the center of the field. The objective of the game is to destroy your opponent's Obelisk. Each Obelisk has unique effects and health values that are always available to you, changing how you play your deck.

The second is the free resource system. Every card in Obelisk is a resource; cards on the field can be "tapped" (or Exhausted in Obelisk) for energy, and each turn you will put a card from the top of your deck into your reserve, where cards will accumulate over time to provide more energy. You can also play these cards in your reserve like they were in your hand. Energy for creatures, creatures for energy.

The third is the field layout. Obelisk is played in a 3x3 grid format, making it somewhat similar to a board game. Moving your creatures around the battlefield will be integral, because it will affect how they can attack, and how your spells and abilities will function.

>Ok, but why should I care?

First and foremost, playing Obelisk is completely free right now. If the game is eventually released, it will be an LCG, meaning you buy expansions of guaranteed cards instead of many random packs. Obelisk's design also encourages a lot of diversity in deckbuilding; the cards shy away from "archetypes", allowing you to design your own strategies. The free resource system also prevents "Mana-screw", where you either have too many resource cards and nothing to play with them, or not enough resource cards to play anything at all. Finally, the positioning and layout adds a layer of strategic depth not seen in other card games.

>I'm convinced. How do I play?

First read the rules here: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B1OuRJUynIqQenFpTXRHTFIyQ0E

(Or the comprehensive rules here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1_V4KTcnsGS2jWAPuLLJnOWITGWt6zLL5SkG-GGcKfEs/edit)

Then download LackeyCCG (lackeyccg.com), then download this file, which contains all the card images and whatnot (https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B1OuRJUynIqQenFpTXRHTFIyQ0E), extract it and put it in your "plugins" folder in lackey. Feel free to mess around with the cards in the deck editor or just play with one of the basic decks.

Also, to those who have seen my previous thread, this is the last time I will be shilling on 8chan. Last time I assumed people were interested and made a bad impression.

Thanks

...of all places

I don't know how about you, but I find /pol/ a goldmine of adventure seeds for modern/not-so-distant-future games.

Whenever something happens in the big World out there, they are fast to procure a relevant "news", with links, some commentary (usually featuring a nice conspiracy).

Take pic related for example.

- PCs are government agents tasked with destroying some target in China

- Things go KA-BOOM!

- Collateral damage, much

- Wait, there's more! Twist in action: PCs' goal was only a coverup for destroying China's supercomputer

- Now PCs are targeted by both China nad their former employees

Ain't that an awesome plot seed for some conspiracy/espionage RPG?

Less known games

Let's stop discussing shit everyone knows, shall we?

What LESS KNOWN games did you read/play recently? Something new that didn't mange to find its way to people's hearts? Something old but forgotten?

I've had the pleasure to play "Kingdom of Nothing" lately. It's modern urban horror game with some supernatural elements. It's about beggars fighting evil coming from within as well as attempting to survive in spite of being social outcasts and rejects.

If you think "Fisher King" with late Robin Williams and Jeff Bridges then you're right. It's just that the "demonic" forces are more real and they might seriously fuck up street dwellers, what makes their lives even more harder and proves that even such rejects have still plenty to lose.

The game is pretty much diceless with a witty coin-based mechanics of conflict solution. It's not perfect, but interesting and it's "bid to win" part makes every conflict quite exciting. The character preparation stage is also quite interesting - it's collaborative process and each character is effectively shaped by whole group what makes some aspects of his personality unknown to the player leading him.

I think that the game is very different to the majority of RPGs out there, in that it's more fitting for longer campaign than simple one-shot. See, there's plenty of things to learn about your character, and each adventure implies seeking the road from allegoric "fall" to "resurrection" and becoming once again part of society.

Have any of you ever been That Guy on purpose? Whether to ruin an already shitty game or rather for the fun of it?

GM Advice for a First-time Group?

Afternoon, /tg/.

I'm currently working on a Pathfinder game that I'm running for a group composed entirely of people who have basically zero concept of anything related to tabletops. I'm not a stranger to GMing or tabletop, but I'm not sure how to go about this. They seem to have it mostly down when I explain things, but then a week later they're back to being confused as shit. Am I doing something wrong here, or do I need to just be more patient? Help me, /tg/.

How would you go about "fixing" RaHoWa (the tabletop RPG)?

A game so terrible that its "Out-doing FATAL in badness" , that is "still biting into the whole concept of: "Whites are the best because we're white and our god told us we are."" and that makes you wonder if "the authors involved with the creation of this game even played a single RPG before trying to make their own. ''"

It's only 18 pages long, it can't be that terrible, can it?

R: 7 / I: 0 / P: 11

I need afterlives and such stuff

So I'm working on a setting where the central theme is attaining enlightenment to ascend from the oppressive world, where one is either firmly under the heel of a variety of megacorporations or be utterly disregarded, and join the ranks of the Immortals, who are a variety of non-human entities including angels, demons, eldritch horrors, physical incarnations of thought, sapient dinosaurs with magical powers, the fey, robots and so on. They all jockey for the souls of humans, which can be used to strengthen their own number and set them on the "right" way of thinking and acting. But I need some otherworldly realms for them to live in. The cosmology is as follows:

- There are 27 realms, which mortal artists tend to draw in cubes of 3x3x3. Think a Rubik's cube: it's kinda like that.

- Two opposing parts here ane the Spiritual realm and the Primal realm: the former is ruled over by the Aeons that split off from the Monad, and the other one is governed by the Outer Gods created by Yaldabaoth/YHWH/Azathoth. The former are realms of Mind, where logic and rigidity are encouraged. The latter are realms of Body, which consist of powerful physical forces where the building blocks of reality are stored.

- Two other opposing types of relam are the Upper and the Lower: the Upper decrease the undesired parts of a soul in size so that the desired parts shine through, while the Lower realms strengthen the desired parts until they completely overcome the undesired parts.

- The final two are those of Rule and Freedom: the realms of Rule work by strict processes through which a soul is purified, while those of Freedom pretty much tell a soul to figure it out on their own.

- In the center sits the realm of Mortals, which gets empowered, which gets powered by the souls of those who do not go to another realm when they pass on. The Immortals would like to see a stop put to this, but to no avail.

I've written up quitea bit already, but I need more realms based on real-world afterlives to fill this out. Especially in the Upper department, where I still fall short. I've went with the basics for the various of the realms (heaven, hell, purgatory, robot realm, faerie realm, realms of endless conflict and so on. But I don't want to rip off Planescape too much and just say "look at those books".

Anyone got an idea of where I can go with? Pic not related.

Ritual Magic

"I ritually cast Fireball for a bigger Fireball with a timing mechanism!" isn't cutting it for me anymore.

Don't get me wrong, I've gotten some good use out of it. Once had a PC make contact with a dead god, goof the ritual so instead of contacting the god's remnant, accidentally contacted the god in the past and alerted it to the fact it would be killed.

Who has some really great, subtle, spoopy takes on rituals or magic? Bonus points if it can be utilized without dedicating the campaign to research and component acquisition.

A buddy read about this in some free supplement somewhere and I've been waiting to implement it:

Give a PC a dream that recurs once, maybe twice. The dream isn't usual, but it is unsettling and contains strange symbols and words. If ignored, the dream goes away. If the PC draws the symbols and speaks the words, even to describe them to someone else, they've performed a ritual that turns them into a conduit for something from somewhere bad. They'll be receiving more dreams/orders/powers, but until they do, it's incredibly difficult to notice anything has happened.

Looking at what my friend is having to deal with in terms of a sudden want from half-chan to steal the Catastrophe setting and turn it into a No Fun Allowed setting is drawing me out of retirement. At least to see if someone here can run with things and keep the original concept of a chill, cartoonish game intact.

I know someone can, the last CATastrophe conversation went really well here. It seemed those of us here know how to unfrizz our tails. I've included the PDF here, to sort of start things off.

Also, I DIDN'T cannibalize the game or the world. Interest died completely and I lost the forum. People on Half-Chan are accusing me of things that I personally wasn't doing, and to be honest I have my suspicions who.

Rules Light RPG System?

I've been playing tabletop RPGs via skype and maptools for about 2 years now, and I'd like to run a game for my friends.

I'm planning to make the game an alternate world cyberpunk, with some alien/psychic/cosmic horror elements, like FF7 or Akira. I'd like it to lean away from the more transhumanist elements of games like Shadowrun or Cyberpunk, because these games put a lot of emphasis on shopping for character stuff, which I'm not really looking for.

So far the system I'm thinking of running it on is FATE, since it's fairly rules light and does a lot to tie character traits to gameplay. However, I know there are other systems out there and I'd like your feedback as to whether there might be a better system out there for this game.

Here's the games I've played:

-Pathfinder

-The Dresden Files RPG (FATE)

-Paranoia

-Shadowrun (4th ed. brief game)

-D&D (3.5 and 4th ed)

-Deadlands (Reloaded?)

-Dungeon World

What I need:

-easy enemy creation

-fast prep

What I'd like:

-Easy to modify skills and abilities to the setting

-Character-crunch interaction

-light on inventory and item importance

Help, my game is becoming SJWed

Some people insist that RPGs became yet another battleground, where Troo gamers face Useful Idiots, attempting to change the hobby according to their liking.

It's hard to either confirm or disregard this assumption - nobody knows precise data about "who", "what" and "to what extent". After all, a bunch of howler monkeys might be easily mistaken for a whole legion, one sentence in some sourcebook could place whole company in bad light, and "nu-nuh, I'm a SJW and you must respect my authority" (or its variations) is one of popular methods of trolling any given board/forum/thread - the bait plenty of people can't refuse to take.

No matter. The undeniable truth is that RPGs change, not exactly in the way people like. After all, it's what they do since times of Gygax & Arenson - games change with each new generation and there's always someone who doesn't like is.

Well, like it, or not, instead of lamenting the fact that games evolve in "not right direction", instead of adding fuel to the flame, confirming people's importance by allowing them to railroad you, expressing how much it bothers you, and sacrificing fuckton of time commenting pointless crap, how about following the oldest, most banal advice?

> "Become the change you want to see".

It's simple. It's elegant. It's what is expected of people who select "inventing stories & shit" as their hobby.

Seriously, no matter how much you might despise alleged Useful Idiots, they in fact do something - they contact developers, make demands, organize some "operations" or simply throw a bait, what in most cases is enough to troll dozens of people. And the outcome is that the moment they choose to move their asses, it counts as good as "win". Even it the change is a tiny, banal difference to some image, or expression, the change is there. Sweet, sweet victory.

The "Troo gamers"? They-we react. There's no movement, no action. We don't add anything to that alleged conflict, we're just "answering" to accusations, comment "the change" and think it's "fight".

Fighting this whole drama in such a way is pointless. Really, it is. The more you do, the more you allow yourself to be distracted, the less you focus on what you're supposed to do - the less you deliver. The more attention you give, the stronger the confirmation of your opposition's existence and in the end you're just strengthening what you'd want to kill.

It's like the God Emperor said himself: it doesn't matter that the Mankind opposes Khorne. If there's rage in them, so is Khorne. (Well, he actually didn't say that, but fuck, it's 100% not heresy).

> So wtf are you suggesting? tl;dr: ?

Simple thing really. Invent shit. Invent as much shit, that's rustling other side's jimmies as possible. It doesn't have to be good. It doesn't have to last for long. It just has to exist.

Bonus points for making it to the world outside of safe boundaries of a board/forum you've chosen to discuss your idea. Win!

> Huh?

For every "women objectification", how about a tiny setting where, instead of gold, women are a commodity and whole economy is based on how much women slaves you can earn? For every "no need for men", how about an adventure where sexy Barbarian girls travel the world in an attempt to reach Manhalla, where they are promised to enjoy as many sausages as they want, providing they were good, foe slaying, fearless Barbarian girls? For every "sexist", how about a lusty-Bikini wearing-fighter class? For every "limit your freedom" how about an optional mechanic where "Freedom" is a quality determining the number of allowed actions?

Things like that - not especially bright, not especially reasonable, but enough to remind assumed Useful Idiots that whatever they do, whatever they demand, they won't limit people's creativity and they can do shit about that.

Offensive instead of defensive.

Think about that.

Alright, so I'm looking to run a campaign of CoC. I really wanna take the Franklin cover-up case and put some mystical shit in it. But I've never played CoC before. My table mainly uses 3.5, and rarely ever venture outside of it. What edition of CoC would you guys recommend?

also, if anyone has a PDF I would be eternally grateful

Maptools

Sup /tg/, I recently switched from using Roll20 to Maptools, and the improvement is massive since I don't have to deal with an UI made for iPad and other hipsterware.

However I can't seem to find a way to save a token so it may be moved across several maps. Seeing as how a lot of info is stored on them, remaking them every time isn't viable. It has so many features, there has to be a way of saving a token with all the info, right?

Also, any must have stuff for it? Since I will mostly use it for Dark Heresy right now I got the DH Framework, which has so much stuff it's almost too much.

General maptools and/or Roll20 alternatives thread I guess.

Tone of your campaign

Relative to your playing style.

I got into a game for the first time (online). While it was certainly very nice,I wasn't expecting such a light-hearted campaign/play style. How are the campaigns you play? Do the players take time to talk in character to each other and tell stories,or are the interactions mostly to describe the action? How,for example,do you handle a dialogue with a NPC in your group?

Call of Cthulhu: Fire Works Well

>Keeping CoC game

>players have pretty much wasted everything I've thrown at them and salted the earth

>decide it's time to get serious and have them go on a mission to Colorado to track down a cult trying to kill them after they burned down their chapel

>cult possibly has a pretty dame hostage so they can't just burn the church down and run for the hills

>they head to the manor the cult is using as a base and has their friend cut the phone line to ensure the police don't come knocking in the middle of the rescue mission

>They break into the first floor and find the floor abandoned but still loot some books and a statue of Tsathoggua (the cults idol of worship)

>Venture into the basement and break the woman free after she cries up a storm about something eldrich waiting in the sub-basement where the cult's altar is

>Party goes in and starts throwing fire bombs at the cultist and set the entire room on fire

>I'm too retarded to keep track of how long they're inside the room and don't really know how fire works so nobody really chokes to death when the fire spreads everywhere

>They're seriously fucking the cultists up like they're nothing so I go with plan B

>mfw I have the cultists summon a Formless Spawn of Tsathoggua which manages to kill three of the four players

Nobody told me about players abusing fire just as much as dynamite.

Hata no Kokoro

Alright, /touhou games/.

http://en.touhouwiki.net/wiki/Hata_no_Kokoro

Hata no Kokoro is a collection of Noh theater masks turned into a girl who cannot express her lively emotions through her face, so she uses the masks that make up her being for that purpose instead.

Now, instead of Noh theater masks, Kokoro is made from a collection of masks from a /tg/ setting of your choice. She may have abilities based on those masks, too.

Now stat her.

Wargame builder

As we are all fully aware that shitposters and shills have invaded, I suppose that it is time for something productive and fun!

SHITPOSTING!

Not really

Thread name says it.

I will provide a basic frame that all of you elegan/tg/entlemen, ca/tg/irls and I can gut and improve upon.

Firstly, there are Three zones:

Loadout zone. This is where Units are stored.

Battlefield. Need I say it?

GRaveyard. Again, need I say it?

Units are your basic fighters. They can be anything from a horde of insects to a demi-god.

Units come with three stats:

Body, which determines basic damage, hand-to-hand combat, and other physical checks.

Mind, which determines accuracy, perception, and other mental checks.

Spirit, which determines bravery, determination, and other emotional checks.

Units come with various Traits, some of which can be added on for a cost.

Essentially they are things like equipment, magic, and extra skills.

And finally there are effects, which can be purchased like traits, yet unlike traits are not exclusive to units. They are such things as supply drops, bombs, ritual spells, and whatever else.

Go nut.

Female Primarch?

Arkham / Edlritch Horror & Online boardgames

Hi /tg/

Me and some of my friends have been playing Arkham Horror recently through VASSAL, we've had a great time and are looking for more fun games available for online play (we're all very very far apart)

If you know of any good online engines and games available on those feel free to suggest them, it would be most helpful.

One of such games is Eldritch Horror, the - from what I've heard - streamlined successor to Arkham Horror. The problem is that due to copyright bullshit all the cards are missing their text in the VASSAL module and unlike Arkham Horror there is no wiki from which to get the card's effects…

So would anyone here know of a source for Eldritch Horror card texts or some such information?

Also Arkham Horror thread, share your crazy stories of imminent doom and hairthread survival.

We played our first game of Innsmouth recently with the mindset of "Let's see how long we can go until we inevitably all get devoured"… and we somehow won, to our great surprise.

Dwarf Fortress

"I mentioned in some Future of the Fortress or other that ethics and values don't instantly assimilate when you grant resident or citizen status to a visitor that petitions to stay at your fortress, and that we'd make sure to have some definite evidence of that fact. I started by diversifying the "work satisfaction" thought by feeding in the job type and filtering it through the individual. In particular, any elves that have the misfortune of signing up for dwarven life can now emotionally process the experiences of tree felling, butchery and animal caging. We trust you'll respect this new situation in your labor settings." - Toady One

Remember== don't ==put your elves citizens to work as woodcutters or butchers!

Libraries of stuff

Guys, I don't know whether these links are known here, so here's whole (apparently) collection. It should cover the majority of typical RPG needs.

Warning: if some link won't open, there should be "VISIT ORIGINAL" or "OPEN LINK IN NEW WINDOW" button available.

> Online RPG stuff

http://drp.mk/Qdmg

- stuff that works in your browser - generators (like donjon), libraries of images, sound effects etc

> Offline RPG stuff

http://drp.mk/QJr9

- stuff you need to download first and usually install (mostly Windows, but also Mac & Linux) - mapmaking software, generators, virtual tables

> D&D/PFRPG related stuff

http://drp.mk/QKrM

- character generators and sheets, SRDs, useful data

> Free RPGs

http://drp.mk/QJmJ

- single & whole libraries of stuff, some are actually quite good

> Newbie guides

http://drp.mk/QjL3

- a little outdated, some Reddit links, a few useful tutorials

> Kiddie RPGs

http://drp.mk/QBTr

- mostly little/non-violent games, simple, quick to learn and set up - in spite of its title, library might be useful for people who want to introduce their families to RPG

> RPG relevant applications (Android)

http://drp.mk/QTnL

- dice rollers, character sheets and generators, combat managers, mapmakers

> DIY links

http://drp.mk/QsBp

- some tutorial, usually for aspiring mapmakers

Warhammer 40K.....

…Is a game only for rich people and homos.

R: 26 / I: 7 / P: 15

The air was thick and reeked of incense, the data looms and cogitation stations casting weird shadows in the flickering light of a hundred candles. The halls of the Adeptus Administratum facility echoed with the whir and bustle of text being transferred between a thousand data-scrolls and the soft clattering of hundreds of darkly robed scribes processing the data. Banners of the Administratum hung from the ceiling, and the series of ornate windows above the rows of data looms showed it was dark outside.

That was of zero concern to Scribe Vils, as she thoughtlessly worked through another requisition form, searching for discrepancies and deviations from the standard, the availability of supplies already having been marked off by another scribe on one of the facility's other floors. There were no problems, and another PDF company was approved for receiving a shipment of a thousand las-cartridges.

The meaning of those words held no significance to the Scribe, and she didn't ponder them. PDF, Imperial Guard, lasguns, rations, or requests for more rockrete meant nothing. Only data tables and adherence to procedure particularly concerned her.

Her mind wandered, of course, for she was but a human and simple humans were frail and easily distracted. Such was the lessons from her birth and childhood, alongside memories of running with a dozen data scrolls in her hands, from station to station. She was glad this facility had streams of text cycling through scrolls automatically, and the thought of such reckless movement was difficult imagine, perhaps vaguely unsettling, if she were to put words to it. She'd learned what that meant through a lengthy tirade of a citation form from a grammar-obsessed PDF colonel to a Guard captain, criticizing the latter's use of the word to describe his men's feelings in Hive Farduk.

For what it mattered, the next few days had been a flurry of requests for aid from defenders as something bad happened. She didn't remember the specifics.

Scribe Vils didn't remember much at all.

A clanging bell announced it was almost time for the sleep cycle, time enough perhaps for a few more reams of data.
